The last laugh
The Last Laugh (最后的笑声) is adapted from a story by Japanese dramatist Kōki Mitani which began as a play in 1996. It tells the story of seven encounters in seven days between a playwright of a comedy troupe, and a comic-averse censor who has just returned from a deployment to the second war.
The Last Laugh shows the power of “laugh” to the world from the perspective of a modern drama, with the structure of blending sadness and joy. The simplification of the plot makes the key focus of the play on the two people's personality conflicts and relationship changes. In other words, the seven encounters between "censor" and "playwright " in seven days constitute the vein and tension of the work; It is through the collision and integration of two characters with different personalities and backgrounds that the play guides the audience to reflect on the war and human nature through laugh, and finally achieves a delicate balance between the tragic factor and the comic factor.
This production breaks the traditional frame stage and boldly tries the open stage. In order to bring the audience a more immersive experience, as well as the possibility of interesting interaction.
