Introduction

‘Juleo and Romiet’

A uniquely eastern expression of ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

‘Juleo and Romiet’ is adapted from a story by Japanese dramatist Kōki Mitani which began as a play in 1996. It tells the story of seven encounters in days between a playwright of a comedy troupe, and a comic-averse censor who has just returned from a deployment to the second war.

Referred to by The British Times as “the most advanced comedy in the world today”, ‘Juleo and Romiet’ pushes the boundaries of contemporary theater, articulating a uniquely eastern expression that resembles the themes and structure of ‘Romeo and Juliet’.

This show is presented by Do Theatre Group of ENE World. This show has been performed in Melbourne, Hobart and Brisbane and received great welcome and praise.

Audiences comment

I loved it. It was a great show. The actors are fantastic. It was beautiful directed, and a great act out. The bilingual aspect of it is really exciting and engaging as well. For an English only speaking person, makes me actively engaging more, it makes me listen more attentively”

The bilingual subtitles help me to understand the show in a better way, but I can almost enjoy it without the subtitle because the actors are so incredible great. Their performance is so really and touched.”
— Audience in May 2022 Last Laugh Anywhere Festival Brisbane
This show is amazing. Actors are professional and they majored in acting in Universities. The atmosphere of the live show is so interactive on our Friday session. Some audience cry, some laugh, some think....Small show us it’s advantage that you can see the small facial expression movement and tears (even running nose) from actors’ face. I’m going again on Sunday!

Fantastic show! Scripture writing and acting are most perfect! A comedy yet would move you to tear. The show would hold you attention from beginning and gradually bring you into the scene, then touch your heart, move you to tear. Great performance!
